Seasons

The real winter usually starts in December with the temperature of about -20C. December and January are the coldest months of the year with the frosts and snow. Sometimes it is -35-40C and children don't go to school and stay at home. Usually such frosts are not long and last for two or three days. Then it starts snowing and it becomes warmer. Sometimes there is much snow and special machines clean the roads and pavements. So we have no problems with car riding and walking to school.
Of course, students are always glad when there are frosts and they don't have to go to school.
Though March is considered to be a Spring month it is rather cold and windy. In April the sun is shining and the snow is melting.
In May the weather is fine and the first leaves appear in the trees. There are floweres in the fields and gardens.
Summer months are June, July and August. July is the hottest months with the temperature of +28 +30C.
September, October and November are autumn months. But in November there is snow.

Winter in Our Region

The climate in our region is strongly continental with big variations of temperature during one year. For the central and southern regions where most of the population lives long winters and short, hot summers are characteristic. The territory of Krasnoyarsk Region experiences conditions of three climate belts: Arctic, Sub-Arctic, and moderate. While in the north there are less than 40 days with temperature higher than 10 °C (50 °F), in the south there are about 110–120 such days.
The average temperature of January is −36 ℃ (−32.8 ℉) in the north and −18 ℃ (−0.4 ℉) in the south. The average temperature of July is 10 ℃ (50 ℉) in the north and 20 ℃ (68 ℉) in the south. Snow covers the central regions since early November till late March.
Last winter was snowy as you can see in the pictures and wasn't very cold.
Now the temperature is unusual for this season - about +1C.

In the first picture you can see old Russian footwear which are popular with small children, some old people and hunters. They are called "valenki". They are made of wool and very warm for cold weather. When the children play in the snow they wear "valenki'. But now you cannot see them very often.
